Artificial Intelligence will likely have a profound impact on the future of humanity. How should we feel about this future? Does AI pose a threat to society? Join Effective Altruism UCT for a talk by Prof. Tommie Meyer, focused on the topic of AI Safety, on 24 April.

Effective Altruism is a global movement, with a chapter here at UCT, which focuses on the application of reason and evidence to some of the world’s most pressing problems. One of the cause areas identified by Effective Altruism is existential risk in general, and the potential existential risk posed by an advanced Artificial Intelligence in particular. 

Prof Tommie Meyer is the Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research, and a full professor in Computer Science at the University of Cape Town.
