Two PhD students honoured at MTSR 2019

A paper co-authored by two computer science doctoral students, Zola Mahlaza and Mary-Jane Antia, won the best student paper award at the recent MTSR 2019 held in Rome, Italy.

The paper, “CLaRO: a controlled language for authoring competency questions” for ontologies and controlled vocabularies, was presented at the 13th International Conference on Metadata and Semantics Research (MTSR).  Submissions were evaluated on their originality, scientific merits, structure, and clarity of composition. The conference proceedings are published with Springer.

Both students are supervised by Associate Professor Maria Keet in UCT’s Computer Science Department.

MTSR is an annual international inter-disciplinary conference, which brings together academics, researchers and practitioners in the specialized fields of metadata, ontologies and semantics research. The conference provides an opportunity for participants to share knowledge and novel approaches in the implementation of semantic technologies across diverse types of information environments and applications.
