Speaker: Sarah Aylmer (Discovery)

Abstract: When is the line of making decisions that serve the interests of the system over that of the customer crossed, and what is our responsibility as product designers and human beings to do about it? This talk will cover topical subjects such as dark patterns, the power of persuasion, the social dilemma and building trust into the very fabric of the products we're designing for.

Bio: Sarah Aylmer heads the Mobile Design team for Discovery, the leading health insurance company in South Africa. She has been in the industry for 14 years  – from a small digital agency to an advertising agency and wealth management at a large financial institution  – and has been exposed to many elements of the design and development process. Born and raised in Johannesburg, she has always had a passion for design and the meaningful understanding of human emotion. Outside of the office she enjoys spending time with family, running, cycling, teaching Pilates, and watching lots of Netflix.
