14th Annual Symposium on Future Trends in Service-Oriented Computing

From April 10-12, the annual Symposium on Future Trends in Service-Oriented Computing 2019 took place at HPI in Potsdam. For the fourteenth time, the symposium outlined new trends in the area of service-oriented computing and highlighted the recent work of selected members of the HPI Research School.

Renowned speakers — both from industry and academia — leaders in their respective field of research, were invited to talk about their latest projects and the resulting outcomes.

The following presentations were made by UCT staff and students:

• Melissa Densmore (Senior Lecturer)
  "Design for Strengthening of Bandwidth-Constrained Communities: Moms, Music and iNethi"
   
• Christine Wanjiru Mburu (PhD student)
  "Melding Disparate Experiences of NICU through Cooperative Prototyping"
   
• Jecton Tocho Anyango (PhD student)
  "An Investigation of a Game Generator Tool to Teach Recursion"
   
• Joseph P. Telemala (PhD student,)
  "Investigating Language Preferences for Improving Multilingual Swahili Information Retrieval"
   
• Zola Mahlaza (PhD student)
  "On Data-to-Text Generation of South African Nguni Languages"

In order to foster collaboration and information exchange, PhD students from all the participating institutions were able to get to know each other both on the social and the academic levels. The event included a mix of a social event, poster session, and demo presentations.
