HPI students to attend global computing symposium

Four students from the HPI Research School at UCT are heading to Potsdam next week to take part in 14th Annual Symposium on Future Trends in Service-Oriented Computing.

The event outlines new trends in service-oriented computing and highlights recent work of selected research school members.
HPI Research School PhD students Wanjiru Mburu, Jecton Tocho, Joseph Telemala, and Zola Mahlaza, together with Dr Melissa Densmore, a senior lecturer with UCT’s Computer Science Department and coordinator of the HPI Research School at UCT, will connect with students and staff from HPI Research Schools in Potsdam, Germany; Nanjing, China; and Haifa, Israel. 

“This annual symposium serves as a wonderful opportunity for international networking, providing excellent experience and exposure for the students as well as opportunities for long-term collaboration with internationally recognized researchers,” says Densmore.

The symposium will cover a wide range of topics including cloud computing, service-oriented architectures (SOAs), mobile and peer-to-peer services, exception handling and security.  Speakers – from both industry and academia – will talk about their latest projects and resulting outcomes.

The HPI Research School at UCT on CS4A aims to enable cost-effective technological solutions to the computing problems that emerge in the context of Africa and the developing world in general. The school focuses on social involvement, instead of finding purely technological solutions.
