Honours students from the Department of Computer Science have begun what promises to be a busy and rewarding year. One of their first major milestones is selecting a research project and supervisor — an important decision that will shape their academic experience for the year ahead.

To support them in this process, a student-led engagement event created space for Honours students to connect with current Master’s and PhD candidates. Postgraduate students represented their respective research labs, setting up dedicated tables with lab names and information to spark conversation and showcase their research areas.

Honours students were invited to move between the different lab groups, ask questions, and have open discussions with postgraduates. These conversations provided valuable insight into the various research directions available, lab environments, and what pursuing postgraduate studies can look like. With busy schedules across year groups, opportunities like this don’t always happen organically, making the event particularly meaningful.

The afternoon concluded with refreshments in the tearoom, allowing conversations to continue in a more informal setting.

Feedback from students was very positive. Many Honours students shared that the event helped them gain clarity on potential research pathways and feel more confident in selecting projects that align with their interests. The master's and PhD students also enjoyed the opportunity to share their experiences and connect with the incoming Honours cohort.
